Madeleine is an organizer, planner, and designer based in Houston, Texas. In their role at Huitt-Zollars, Madeleine’s work prioritizes intuitive, reliable, and frequent transportation design, place-based community planning, and thorough, in-depth public involvement processes. Her work in building robust public infrastructure centers marginalized voices and people-centered planning. In addition to multiple community planning and organizing efforts in Houston, they have worked on Reimagining Regional Rail and Transit Oriented Communities for SEPTA, the Trinity Metro Bus Network Redesign in Fort Worth (implemented in fall 2021 — A Better Connection), and done public engagement for the City of Houston around the North Houston Highway Improvement Project to propose a community-backed vision for a more equitable transportation project. Throughout these projects, Madeleine plans community events and interactive engagement, develops recommendations, prepares reports and presentations, presents at meetings, and facilitates meeting breakouts.

Madeleine has organized efforts to prevent and raise awareness of fossil fuel campaign contributions for Texas politicians. After Winter Storm Uri in 2021, Madeleine was interviewed about their organizing efforts during the Freeze on Revolutions Per Minute. Their efforts were also recognized in the Houston Chronicle, “Mutual aid groups helped Houstonians when the government could not.”

Her work on urbanism and flood resilience, Banding the Bayous, was on display in 2021 at the Architecture Center Houston’s exhibit Houston 2020 Visions. The exhibition received media coverage in Architect’s Newspaper, The Houston Chronicle, and Rice Design Alliance, which featured an interview with exhibition curator and Houston City Council Member David Robinson, AIA.
